Every night I am guarded by my friend Permal. We have tea and breakfast every morning together. We were told by an Indian at school, "You think you are equals with these people, but you are NOT!" I cannot agree with him. I am walking cheerfully over the Earth greeting that of God in everyone--that is equal.

I am wearing toe rings on both toes, because that is what married women do. I also wear a red bindi on my forehead, another sign of marriage.

mom, when dad told me you're wearing the bindi- i laughed, before knowing it was appropriate. i really thought those were for religious reasons... you look so sweet here... i miss you.

I take it that it that's your friend Permal? Who is he? A funny coincidence, my Anthropology professor, Dennis Templeman, who also was in the Tamil Nadu, was standing in a line at the main city office that would have taken hours. The mayor came up and told him that because he was white he should just go to the front of the line. When he insisted on waiting, he was also told that although he may think that they are equal, they are not. I love the pics, Mom. I suppose that now I, too, must start a blog?

Hi Lauri--Feels like we are there with you. Such a wonderful gift, to see your smiling face, photos, and smiling words about your new abode. Elena sends her love--"Thanks for being a great teacher--I miss you." I imagine you are eating some new delights and learning new words and phrases. Take care, and best wishes in your new school. I will miss your singing, hugs, and "Lauri-isms" across the hall and in our meetings. Thanks for taking the time to share this rich and beautiful part of the world.--Veronica
